About

This weblog started out as a research platform for a course I was preparing on networked narrative, back in July of 2001. I called it, “net.narrative environments,” although my interest then as now was not so much in narrative, or stories, as in the systems and practices that produce them. The tagline was, “performing in/as code,” which is just what I was doing, much of the time β€” performing HTML and CSS, performing in the codes of academia (and not so much), learning and performing codes and protocols of open source cultures.

Then, after 2005 or so, it lay fallow for a long time.

My interests are a bit different now. I’m still fascinated with protocols and codes, but more focused now on using them to achieve certain effects. I’m interested in systems, patterns, frameworks, habits that allow us β€” meβ€” to live on or at the threshold (“liminal living”). What threshold? Oh, you know: the edge. Only safely. And with mindfulness. we’re all there anyway, more or less.

I’m just getting set up here in a brand new template and at a new server. Still lots of fixing up to do. Oh! The drawings are from the Divination Drawing series by John F. Simon, Jr. and used with his generous permission. I’d say more, but for now, back to flow.
