About
From LaurasWiki
LaurasWiki is a personal research wiki -- formerly "laurazWiki" (with a "z"). I'm gradually getting up to speed with MediaWiki (http://www.mediawiki.org/), learning my way around the editing and admin protocols, and am liking it a lot.
To add a comment, use the discussion tab along the top of every page. First, though, you'll need to register and log in (above, far right).
Earlier versions of my research wiki:
- laurazWiki (2002-03) (http://tonka.iat.sfu.ca/laura/protoTools/laurazWiki/LaunchPage)
- laurazWiki (2003-04) (http://www.netvironments.org/laurazWiki/FrontPage)
I've also used wikis in my teaching:
- EmergenceWiki (2003) (http://www.netvironments.org/ECulture/EmergenceWiki)
- NoteToSelf: Add EC Emergence wikis from 2004 after installing spam protection
Previous incarnations of LaurasWiki were driven by ZWiki (http://zope.org), a wiki engine made with Zope (http://zope.org), which in turn is written in Python. So, the "z" in "laurazWiki" came from ZWiki and stood for the Zope -- and I'm pretty sad to see it go! But I needed something cleaner and calmer to the eye and better suited to intensive authoring.
Oh, I couldn't help but notice that MediaWiki's default style sheets ("MonoBook"), which I've adapted here, prominently credit the Plone team (http://plone.org). And somehow, the more I tweak it, the closer the design and layout seems to come to looking like Plone! :)
